The nearest town, Callander located 5 miles away (a 15 minute drive) has a couple of supermarkets, banks, a petrol station and numerous restaurants, cafes and shops. The city of Stirling is 19 miles away (a 40 minute drive) offers a larger selection of supermarkets, banks and shops. The area around The Trossachs and Stirling is stepped in history, much of which is brought to life at the Rob Roy and Trossachs Visitor Centre in Callander. There is an audio-visual exhibition, a cinematic tour of the places that Rob Roy once roamed, gift shop with local crafts and the main Tourist Information Centre.
Click thumbnails to enlarge Further afield, both Edinburgh and Glasgow are easily accessible for theatres, restaurants and shopping (both approximately a 1hr. 15min. drive away). Suggested places to visit include Doune Castle, once the ancestral home of the Earls of Moray, which is open all year. A large Antique Centre at Doune provides an opportunity to browse and buy an interesting array of Scottish artefacts. The Queen Elizabeth Forest Park and Visitor Centre is located just one mile from Aberfoyle and allows you to learn about a modern, working forest. There are superb waterfalls and viewpoints throughout the Trossachs including Inversnaid, which offers stunning views to the spectacular Arrochar Alps and The Duke's Pass that affords a birds eye view of the surrounding hills.
